The show Criminal Minds was released on September 22nd, 2005 and ran until February 9th of 2020 on CBS with a total of seventeen seasons. The show was produced by Jeff Davis along side Erica Messer as showrunner and main screenwriter. Criminal Minds is about a group of FBI agents working at Quantico in Virgina for the BAU, Behavioral Analysis Unit, all while experiencing their own struggles on and off the clock. Characters travel to all different states covering different cases all with their own unique endings.
Criminal Minds was well written, and the cast members did an excellent job executing the personalities of their characters and making them come to life. Each episode included its own specific plot for each suspect they were investigating. After seventeen seasons, writers were able to make each case they were investigating different from other cases to keep viewers engaged in the show. A unique strategy they did to keep viewers on their toes was bringing back old suspects into new seasons to keep their plots going for a big finish.
The writers intended audience for Criminal Minds are people who are interested in CSI shows, drama, and fiction. Even if these descriptions may not seem like something someone may be interested in, it is the perfect show to watch if you are looking for something to binge watch. Despite all the twists and turns through out the show, it is quite simple to follow along with, but not too easy to figure out the “who did it?” by the end of the episode.
The character struggles on the show range from one end of the spectrum to the other. Some characters face life threatening challenges during work and at home while others mostly stay safe in the comfort of their office. The characters in the show form strong friendships together- for example, Derek and Penelope. Penelope works as a computer genius for the team and Derek is a hot-headed FBI agent who needs to save the day; a match made in heaven. Derek calls Penelope different names most people would use for their significant other like “baby girl” and “beautiful”.
The main characters of the show and more well-known cast members are Shemar Moore as Derek Morgan, Spencer Reid as Matthew Gray Gubler, and Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner. Characters of the cast come and go as the seasons go on so try not to grow too attached to a character because you never know when they may leave.
Jeff Davis, all crew members, and all cast members did a great job on set of Criminal Minds. What makes the show different from other CSI shows is the character relationships that grow deeper with every episode and the traveling that takes place in the show the traveling makes the characters and plot adapt to different situations which makes the episodes more appealing. Overall, this show is highly recommended for those looking for a good watch with a touch of drama.
