On March 10, the 2024 Oscars Academy Awards aired. The event always observes celebrities wearing a range of fashion that is subject to significant debate and controversy. The scope of these debates can range anywhere from the designs’ creativity to their artistry to their boldness.
Actress Anya Taylor-Joy’s Dior dress immediately stood out as one of the best from the awards. The dress was silver and glittered, ending in a feather shape
at the skirt. Her dress was simple and elegant while still displaying the individuality sought after at award shows; it was completely unique without crossing a line of chaos.
On the contrary, Jamie Lee Curtis’ long sleeve, floor length, solid black dress by Dolce & Gabbana felt lacking. Instead of portraying elegance, the dress’ simplicity came across as plain.
While often men at the Oscars stick to a simple suit and stay in a certain comfort zone, this year, more men were seen stepping outside the box. Ke Huy Quan wore a maroon suit from Armani; though the change in color from the traditional black was subtle, his look embraced the suit while adding something personal and different. In true “Kenergy” fashion, Ryan Gosling wore a black Gucci suit lined with silver accents, forgoing a tie. Much like Ke Huy Quan, Gosling stood out by putting a unique spin on the standard.
Ill-fitting straps appeared to be a pattern observed in at least two instances. Both Oppenheimer stars Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt wore dresses with straps which rose a decent height above their shoulders, leaving a gap of empty space. This did somewhat draw attention away from their dresses.
A highlight looking back on all the Oscars fashion from this year was Michelle Yeoh. She wore a flowing silver dress from Balenciaga and ballroom length black gloves. The combination of color palette and silhouette created a very classy presence.
