We as individuals may not think we can make a big impact on the world, but when we come together, we can do amazing things. The Send a Smile club fosters a positive environment at CB South that brings together the student body to achieve their mission: putting smiles on the faces of patients in children’s hospitals and nursing homes one card at a time.
The club works with Neshaminy Manor, Penn State Children’s Hospital, Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, and Texas Children’s Hospital. Students make creative cards centered around numerous themes throughout the school year that are sent to one of these organization’s each month.
At club meetings, students come together to connect with their peers, enjoy snacks, and watch shows as they construct their cards. Some of these members shared their experience with the club.
“The aesthetic of the club is really cute, and we were all having a lot of fun doing something that was working towards a greater cause”.
– Madison Stott
“It makes me happy to think that something small we are doing is going to make such a positive impact on so many different people”.
-Lena Karcher
“I love going to Send a Smile because it feels good to know I’m doing something good for someone else”.
-Sariah Soderquist
This positive feedback has also come from the organizations themselves.
“We appreciate your kindness and generosity, as do our residents”.
-Karen Korizis, Assistant Director of Activities at Neshaminy Manor
“Thank you for thinking all our pediatric patients and putting a smile on their face”.
-The Child Life Staff at Penn State Children’s Hospital
