Honest Movie Review of Disney’s “Safety” (Spoiler-Free)
As I mentioned in the title, this review of the Disney+ exclusive, Safety, will be spoiler-free!
First hearing about Safety, I looked for excellent football action with a steering plot full of sports action, but what I got was something more profound with a more in-depth story.
Safety’s scene is set at the famous Clemson University, which is very well known for its football team.
The story is based on the true story of a Clemson student-athlete who had to balance college, football, and home life.
The main character plays the position of safety, hence the movie title.
The movie is a bit slow initially; however, it picks up as the movie progresses. There are points where the plot takes a sharp turn and slows down again, but the overall pacing is suitable.
The casting is solid, and some may recognize the actor Jay Reeves who plays the main character from the CW football orientated show All American.
The acting is also good. There are a few cheesy/corny moments, but this movie is more PG and orientated toward a younger audience; however, I think anybody can enjoy the themes and story.
The movie builds on the saying “it takes a village to raise a child,” and shows the sides to athletes and students most do not see.
I was a bit disappointed that there was not as much football as I wanted, but I feel like the story buildup between the characters and family makes the movie worth the watch.
