The smell of cinnamon and pumpkin fills the air. You lick sweet caramel cream off your fingers from a delicious pastry and take a sip of spicy hot chocolate from your warm, Styrofoam cup.

Leaves colored in the deepest shades of crimson and chestnut crunch under your feet, and you hear children laughing all around you. You sigh; finally, it is Halloween.

The weeks leading up to Halloween are always full of fun and excitement. Decorations are put up, candy is purchased for trick-or-treaters, and the finishing touches are added to costumes.

There are always Halloween movie marathons played on TV and lots of talk about what everyone is being for the holiday.

Halloween means something different to everyone. To some it is the start of something amazing.

“Halloween means the beginning of fall. It’s kind of the beginning of the best part of the year,” said junior Victoria Moreira.

To others, Halloween is a “non-judgmental” holiday. Sophomore Chloe Hyde said that Halloween is a “way to express yourself through costume.”

The CB South marching band will be having a competition on Halloween this year, therefore preventing the students in marching band from participating in the usual Halloween festivities. However, some of the marching band students are making the best of it.

“The Friday before [Halloween], I am dressing up for school, and the Saturday of, the color guard and I are dressing up,” said Chloe.

The students at South who are not members of marching band will be celebrating Halloween in various ways. Some students will be getting together with friends, attending Halloween parties, or visiting haunted houses. Others will be trick-or-treating or handing out candy.

Regardless of your plans for Halloween, there is no denying that Halloween is a glorious time of year filled with free candy, scary movies, and creative costumes.

Go out and enjoy this fun holiday with your friends! Have a spook-tacular Halloween!
